The Crown & Thistle ****
It’s the kind of country road that would give John Denver a run for his money: this Sunday you’ll follow the River Thames down to Abingdon where you’ll slow down and embark on a journey through time. As you wander the cobbled streets, you’ll hear the hustle and bustle of medieval markets. As you explore St Helens Church, choirs of yesteryear will sing a heavenly tune. No tardis necessary.
**What to expect: **
🏛️ Explore England’s oldest town and settle into the kind of lazy 24 hours they would have enjoyed back in 676
🗝️ Drop your bags in your room and soak up the original 17th century features that surround you: think exposed bricks, beams and 200 year old wisteria that’s perfect for reading a book under
🍕 Pop back to 2022 for a mediterranean-inspired feast at the hotel’s restaurant; while we love the medieval times, they didn’t have pizza (add-on)
🍳 Breathe in that countryside air one more time over a cooked breakfast served a-la carte
✨ Journey back to the present with the knowledge that a trip through time is just a couple of hours from London
If you thought a min-break for 24 hours was weird, Abingdon’s about to one up you. The town has a long-standing tradition of local dignitaries throwing buns from the roof of the museum for crowds in the market square on days of celebration
A fabulous old building, with large comfortable room. If you're looking for a modern room with clean lines this probably isn't for you - but if you like character, slightly sloping floors, and charm this is spot on.
